Costco Chicken Street Tacos Kit Review

Can you say Taco Tuesday? The Chicken Street Tacos Kit from Costco takes all the work out of preparing Tacos.

I tried this kit in the past, but it’s been awhile, so I grabbed another one last time I was at Costco. There are some things I love about this kit and some things that I didn’t. Here is everything that you need to know about these street tacos.

Grilled Seasoned Chicken

The kit comes with pre-cooked and pre-seasoned chicken. I was worried that there might not be enough chicken, but we ended up having extra. While the chicken is already pre-cooked, it must be reheated before being served.

Tomato Salsa & Cilantro and Lime Cream

I love that the Costco Kit also comes with two different options of salsa or cream to add to the street tacos.

Shredded Cheese & Freshly Shredded Vegetables & Cut Limes

You can also see that this kit comes with shredded cheese (although we used extra cheese from home) and fresh shredded vegetables. I love limes on my street tacos, so it is nice that they were included.

12 Corn & Flour Tortillas

Included are 12 corn & flour tortillas. They are small, but that is because this kit is for street tacos!

Cooking the Tacos

I was surprised that the package and label didn’t include cooking instructions. Here is how I cooked mine. First I added the chicken to a medium sized frying pan and set the heat to medium high. After the pan heated I added in about ¼ cup of chicken broth.

The chicken already seemed a bit dry, so adding in the chicken broth while warming the chicken will add more moisture back into the chicken. I covered it, and cooked it on medium heat stirring often until all the chicken broth was evaporated.

While I was warming the chicken I got a small frying pan and set it to low heat so that I could warm up the tortillas. Since the tortillas are stored in the kit which is refrigerated, they are stiff. After my frying pan was heated I warmed them for about 20 seconds on each side.

This makes them soft and easier to make your tacos with. It also makes them taste so much better. So don’t skip this step! After the tortillas and meat were warmed I added all the toppings and was done.

Taste

While I enjoyed the tacos, and I loved how quick and easy they are to prepare, I don’t think I will be buying this kit again soon. Don’t get me wrong, they were pretty good, but the one thing that I didn’t like about them was that the chicken seasoning was just a bit too spicy for me.

I don’t like my tacos with too much seasoning, even when I cook them at home, I don’t add very much seasoning at all.

My kids also complained that the meat was too spicy. If they offered this kit with unseasoned chicken, I might purchase it again, but unfortunately they don’t. If you like spicy meat, you might just love it.

While I wasn’t a fan of the pre-seasoned chicken, I have to say that I was a big fan of the Cilantro and Lime cream and the tortillas. Now I just need to find out where I can buy them separately, because they were so good.

I expected the tortillas to be a bit dry, but they were not dry at all, and they were honestly some of the best store bought tortillas that I have tried.

The fresh vegetables and cheese were also good, but we did have to break out a bag of shredded cheese from the fridge because there just wasn’t enough in the set. I guess this just depends on how much cheese you like on your tacos.

The Cilantro and Lime Cream was so good, it wasn’t even spicy at all. The red salsa was good too.
