Frozen El Monterey Chicken and Cheese Taquitos at Costco Review
These frozen taquitos are a quick and easy meal when you are short on time! Today I’m reviewing the Frozen Monterey Chicken and Cheese Taquitos from Costco. My kids absolutely love taquitos and have been asking for me to buy some. When I was on my last Costco run and spotted these I just knew that I needed to try them out.
Details
- Costco item number 18668
- $11.79 USD
- Charbroiled chicken breast with rib meat
- Box includes 30 taquitos

Inside the box
When you open the box there are two separate bags of taquitos.
Each of these bags include a ziplock seal for keeping them fresh. I love that they are separated into two bags. This makes storing them and saving them in your freezer much easier.
Ingredients
Each of the taquitos are made out of Mexican charbroiled chicken breast with rib meat and includes real monterey jack cheese and tomato sauce and is rolled in a flour tortilla. The back of the box includes a bit more information about the El Monterey company that makes the taquitos.
Cooking Instructions
There are cooking instructions on the box for cooking the taquitos in the microwave, oven or air fryer.
Microwave: Place frozen taquitos on a microwave safe place. Cook 2 taquitos on high for 1 minute. Cook 4 taquitos on high for 2 minutes.
Oven: Preheat oven to 400F. Place frozen taquitos 1” apart on a baking sheet with low sides. If baking more than 10 taquitos, split the amount between two baking sheets. Cook for 13 minutes.
Air Fryer: Place 4 frozen taquitos into the air fryer basket. Cook for 8 minutes at 350F.
The fastest and easiest way to cook the taquitos is by microwaving. However, if you are cooking a larger batch, like more than 5 it might be easier to just cook them in the oven. The air fryer method is also a great option, but you can only cook 4 taquitos at a time.
Cooking the Taquitos
I purchased an air fryer from Costco a few months ago and I love cooking new things in it. So I decided to cook my taquitos in the air fryer. To cook the taquitos I followed the instructions on the package. I first preheated my air fryer to 350F.
I then placed four frozen taquitos in the air fryer basket and cooked for 8 minutes. After 8 minutes the taquitos were cooked perfectly.
Taste
I would have to say that the taquitos were ok. They were not my favorite taquitos that I have tried, but they were also not bad.
Some things that I did like about the taquitos were that there was a good amount of filling on the inside. I also enjoyed how the tortilla that the taquitos were wrapped in was crispy.
While the crips outside the shell and the filling were both good, the actual flavor of the taquitos was not too impressive. They were a bit tasteless. It didn’t seem like they had much seasoning or flavor mixed in with the filling.
While I personally prefer taquitos that have more of a Mexican seasoned taste, my kids really loved them.
I was actually a bit worried that they might be too spicy for my kids, because they hate anything that has any spice to it. Since these didn’t have any spice at all, my kids didn’t complain and even asked for more.
Nutrition
Once serving size is 2 taquitos which contains 250 calories. Here is a photo of the full nutrition facts from the box.
Final Thoughts
While the Taquitos at Costco were not bad, they were also not one of my favorite things that I have tasted, they are not a bad buy. For less than $12 you get 30 taquitos. They also come in easy storage plastic containers, and are quick to heat up and enjoy.
I would totally recommend them if you are someone that doesn’t like things that are spicy, and also if you have kids (like mine) that hate spicy things.
