Monterey Spinach and Cheese Ravioli from Costco Review

If you are looking for a quick and easy meal idea, the Spinach and Cheese Ravioli from Costco might be just what you need! At one of my many trips to Costco I found a pack of this ravioli from Monterey Pasta Company.

Since I didn’t know what I was cooking for dinner yet I thought that they would be perfect. They were so fast to make and so good, I will definitely be buying these again!

Cooking Instructions

  1. Add pasta to 4 quarts of boiling water. Stir gently.
  2. Boil gently for 4-5 minutes or until desired texture is achieved.
  3. Scoop pasta from water and drain to avoid breakage.
  4. Toss in extra virgin olive oil and top with freshly grated cheese.

I followed these cooking instructions and my raviolis turned out perfectly.

Preparing the Spinach Ravioli

First I filled a medium sized pot halfway with water. Make sure that you get a big enough pot because the raviolis will expand as they are cooking. After my water came to a boil, I added a pack of the ravioli into the boiling water and set my timer for 5 minutes.

I boiled the ravioli for 5 minutes gently stirring to make sure that they didn’t stick together. The raviolis do get bigger as they are cooking, so make sure you have a large enough pot.

After 5 minutes, the ravioli was cooked perfectly. I then drained the pasta in my strainer.

The instructions say to toss in extra virgin olive oil, but I instead added some alfredo sauce to mine. You could really just add any sauce that you like best including traditional red pasta sauce. It is just a matter of your personal preference. Then, I topped the ravioli with some freshly grated parmesan cheese.

Taste

I thought that the ravioli tasted great. I really loved the combination of the spinach and cheese with the alfredo sauce and fresh parmesan.

Next time I make it I am going to try it with a red pasta sauce. While it didn’t seem like the package was very big, after the pasta was cooked it was very filling.

Each ravioli is pretty large. I like that they are bigger, because you can enjoy the cheese and spinach filling. I have gotten ravioli in the past where the filling part was very small and it was mostly pasta.

I thought that the larger size of these tasted great since you are able to really taste the filling. I could definitely taste the ricotta, mozzarella, parmesan and cheese filling. I couldn’t really taste the spinach, but I could see it.

On the side, I had some steamed broccoli and it went perfectly with the ravioli. A salad would have been so good too.

What I Loved

I loved that the pasta was so easy to prepare. I only took less than 10 minutes to boil the water and cook the ravioli. Since the ravioli was wrapped in a thin layer of dough, I thought that they might break open or break apart while cooking, but none of them broke open.

Even after draining and stringing them in the pasta sauce, they didn’t break at all. The raviolis comes in a pack of two, and I just used half the pack and it was more than enough to free a family of four.

I thought that the spinach and cheese raviolis were so good, but my kids were not too excited about the taste. They just prefer the plain cheese kind.

Final Thoughts

I really enjoyed the Spinach and Cheese Ravioli from Costco. I just wish my kids liked it as much as I did.

They seemed really fresh, and were so easy to prepare. I loved how the ravioli were large in size with a good amount of filling. If you are looking to try out a new flavor of ravioli, then I would recommend that you give these ones a try.
