Summ Apple Pie Rolls at Costco Review
Have you heard of the Costco Apple Pie Rolls? They are like a spring roll but with apple pie filling inside!
Think crunchy on the outside but sweet like apple pie on the inside. They even come with caramel dipping sauce. All that is missing is the ice cream!
While they are very sweet, they are also delicious. If you like apple pie, then you should definitely give these a try! I think that you will find that they are the ultimate treat. These large boxes of apple pie rolls are only sold at Costco, but they don’t always have them in stock.
I didn’t even know that these existed until I spotted them in stock at my local store. Instantly I knew that I was going to be trying these and I am glad that I did.
Costco Pro Tip: I found these in stock at my store during the beginning of January. Normally they are sold seasonally for fall, but I did some research and discovered that customers have seen these being sold as early as July. I would say that they probably start stocking the apple pie rolls in the middle to end of summer and stop stocking them after the new year.
If you can’t find them at your local store, then check the bakery for Apple Turnovers, or the famous Kirkland Apple Pies. Here is my full review and everything that you need to know.
Item Number, Location & Price
I found them in the refrigerated section near the deli not far from the lunch meat, dips, and appetizers. The item number is 1259347 and they were $10.89 USD for the large box of 16 rolls.
What is Included
The box comes with a 2 pack. Each pack contains 8 rolls and one caramel dipping sauce. In total there are 16 rolls and 2 dipping sauces.
Cooking Instructions
You can cook the apple pie rolls by heating them in the oven or in an air fryer. Here are the instructions for both.
I decided to cook mine in the air fryer. I followed the air fryer instructions from the package and they were cooked perfectly. They were browned and crispy on the outside and hot on the inside. Also, my kitchen smelled so good, like fresh apple pie!
Tip: On the package, it says to let cool for 2 minutes, but even after 2 minutes the apple pie filling the middle was still very hot and almost burned my mouth. I would suggest letting it cool for about 5 minutes or more before eating.
Nutrition Information
One serving size is 2 rolls with 1 tbsp of sauce. Each serving has 220 calories. Here is the full nutritional information.
Taste
Other than being very hot when I first bit into the apple roll, I was surprised by how good they were. They were perfectly crunchy on the outside and they had the perfect amount of filling on the inside. I think that cooking them in the air fryer gave the wrapper a crunchy texture.
The roll is the same kind that is used on an egg roll. It’s crispy and crunchy, not soft and flaky like a real apple pie crust. From the outside they looked just like the Costco Spring Rolls which are some of my favorites. They definitely tasted like spring roll meets apple pie!
The taste also reminded me of the fried apple pies that I used to get a McDonalds about 15 years ago. Hot and crispy when you bite into them but sweet and sugary on the inside.
While the caramel sauce was good, I felt that it was just too sweet to be paired with the rolls. The apple rolls are already very sweet, and I personally felt that the caramel was a bit much. Although, I think that they would be amazing paired with some Kirkland Vanilla Ice Cream.
The filling was packed with tiny but chewy apple chunks and had a sweet cinnamon and sugar taste. While the rolls can be eaten as finger food, I found that when I bit into each roll, a bit of filling would fall out and it was just messy. It was easier and cleaner to eat on a plate with a fork.
Final Thoughts
While these apple pie spring rolls were very sweet, they were also very good! You might want to pick up some ice cream instead of using the included caramel sauce, either way they are delicious! Overall, I would rate them a 7/10.
They are a great buy for $10.89 for 16 rolls. If you are looking to take apple pie to the next level, then you might want to get some of these for the perfect autumn appetizer or dessert.
While I won’t be buying them on a regular basis, because they are very sweet, I would definitely recommend trying them, and would buy them again if I was hosting a fall party or for a special occasion.
