Mac and Cheese Costco Bake Review

Everyone loves pasta covered in cheese! The Mac and Cheese Costco Bake is the perfect solution to preparing an easy side dish for a crowd. I have been on a mission lately to try all the Costco pre-made meals from the Deli.

So when I spotted this and we were planning on having a BBQ then I knew I had to get it. There are some things that I really love about it, and some things that I just thought were ok.

Details

  • Costco item number 40506.
  • $2.99 USD per lb. (most bakes cost about $10.50 USD)
  • Oven ready.
  • Cavatappi pasta.
  • Cheddar cheese.

What’s included

The Mac and Cheese bake is made fresh and found in the deli section. It comes in a tin container that is covered in a clear lid, and is fully ready to bake.

Cooking Instructions

The cooking instructions for the mac and cheese bake say that you should preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Remove the clear lid. Cover with foil and place onto a baking sheet. Place on the center rack of oven and bake for 40-60 minutes or until temperature reaches 165 degrees.

Cooking the Mac and Cheese Bake

The mac and cheese bake is super easy to prepare. Here is how I prepared mine. First I took off the clear plastic lid and covered it with foil.

I placed it on a baking sheet and into my oven preheated to 400 degrees and let it cook for 40 minutes. After 40 minutes I removed it from the oven, took off the foil and stirred it up.

You don’t have to stir it up, but I just wanted to mix some of the cheddar cheese that was on top with the rest of the mac and cheese.

Then I put the foil back on and let it bake for ten more minutes. After 10 minutes I took it out and it was perfect. Here is what it looked like when it was done cooking.

Taste

While it didn’t have much flavor to it, it was nice and creamy. The pasta noodles were really big. The sauce reminds me of the same consistency of alfredo sauce from the Costco Alfredo Bake.

The noodles were cooked perfectly, and it was heated all the way though. It was definitely not spicy at all. It’s very filling, and it doesn’t taste bad, it just tastes really plain.

What I loved

While the taste was really a bit plain, I loved how easy it was to prepare. All I had to do was cover it in foil and bake it in the oven.

It is also really big so it would serve quite a few people. We just had 4 of us and we used about half of this with pretty large serving sizes for each.

It doesn’t say how many servings are included, but I would guess that it would probably feed about 8-10 people. We had a smoked Costco Tri-Tip and the pre-made Ceasar Salad with our mac and cheese.

Final Thoughts

While this wasn’t one of my favorite tasting things that I have tried at Costco, I might purchase it again if I needed an easy and convenient side dish for a crowd.

It didn’t taste bad, was easy to cook, and was done in less than an hour. It might be even better if you add some pepper and some bacon bits! Overall, I won’t be buying it again anytime soon, but I might buy it if I am in a hurry or need to grab a quick and easy side dish.
