Costco Smoothie Packs by Clovis Farms Review

I love smoothies, so when I spotted the smoothie packs at Costco I knew that I wanted to try them. The smoothie packs include 6 packs of frozen fruits and vegetables for making quick and easy smoothies.

I liked the idea of the individual frozen smoothie packs. I also really liked that they included spinach and kale. While I was really looking forward to these I was sadly disappointed.

Inside the bag 

The bag includes 6 individual 8 oz bags of frozen fruit and vegetables for making smoothies.

Each bag is one serving, and makes one smoothie, so you can make 6 smoothies total.

The bags are filled with frozen blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, kale, spinach, and bananas. In the photo below you can see the frozen fruit that is included in one of the smoothie packs. Each bag contains about 1 cup of frozen fruit. The frozen green chunks are the kale and spinach.

I found that the smoothie packs included much more blueberries and strawberries than bananas and raspberries. 

Instructions

Each of the bags also include instructions to make a smoothie. Here are the instructions shown on the bags. 

  1. Combine the contents of (1) Clovis Farms super smoothie blend pouch and 1-½ cups water or your favorite juice or milk in a blender (Apple juice is recommended).
  2. Blend on high for 60 seconds or until desired texture is achieved. 
  3. Pour into a tall glass, garnish as desired and enjoy! 
  4. Combine the contents of (1) Clovis Farms super smoothie blend pouch and 1-½ cups water or your favorite juice or milk in a blender (Apple juice is recommended).
  5. Blend on high for 60 seconds or until desired texture is achieved. 
  6. Pour into a tall glass, garnish as desired and enjoy!

Nutrition Information 

A serving size is one smoothie pack and includes 100 calories. To make a smoothie you will also have to add 1-½ cups of water, milk, or juice. Depending on what liquid you use, it will add to the overall sugar and calories in your smoothie.

Making the Smoothies

I actually tried making this smoothie a few different ways to taste test it. The first time that I made it I used unsweetened almond milk. 

It was actually really easy to make I just dumped 1 frozen smoothie pack and 1-½ cups of almond milk into my Ninja Blender

I then mixed it on low for about 30 seconds. It was so easy to mix and turned out perfectly blended.

After tasting it with the almond milk, I really didn’t care for the taste. Since the bag does recommend using apple juice as the preferred liquid, I made another one using 1-½ cups of apple juice.

Taste 

I really wanted to love these smoothie packs, but unfortunately they just were not for me. I really didn’t like the overall taste. 

The first one that I made using unsweetened almond milk I couldn’t even finish drinking. It wasn’t that it tasted bad, it just wasn’t sweet enough for me.

The taste of the spinach and kale was a bit too strong with not enough fruits to balance it out. It also seemed like the only fruit or berry that I was tasting was the blueberry, and it was just too tart.

I have made many smoothies and I normally use unsweetened almond milk. I don’t like to add too much juice or dairy since it is not as healthy. 

So I really don’t think that it was the almond milk that made it taste bad, just the actual combination of how many frozen fruits and vegetables were included in the pack. 

I didn’t finish drinking the almond milk one, but I really wanted to give these super smoothie packs another chance. 

Since the package recommends using apple juice, I made the smoothie again, but this time I used 1-½ cups of apple juice.

This one actually tasted a little bit better, since the apple juice sweetened it up and masked the flavor of the spinach and kale. The apple juice did give it a bit more flavor. 

It just tasted way too much like apple juice. I almost felt like I was just drinking just apple juice. It was way too sweet. Personally I like to avoid adding too much juice or yogurt to my smoothies because it is just added sugar. 

While the apple juice tasted a bit better than the almond milk, I wouldn’t want to be making these smoothies using juice every time. Also, another thing that I didn’t like about these smoothies was that they had way too many seeds. 

I think it was the raspberries that were included in the frozen fruit blend, but every time you would take a drink, there were just so many seeds, and they got stuck in my teeth.

Final Thoughts 

While I didn’t personally love the Costco Smoothie Packs and wouldn’t really recommend them, I did some research and they do have a few positive reviews. 

The good thing about these smoothie packs is that they do contain spinach and kale which is something that you don’t see in many smoothie blends. 

This makes them a bit healthier than other blends.

I do think that these smoothie packs would taste better if they had different amounts of frozen fruits. 

They would definitely taste better if they had more frozen bananas. Most of the smoothie packs I looked at only had a few slices of frozen bananas, and this just wasn’t enough. 

When I researched these smoothie packs, some of the reviews stated that they added bananas when making their smoothie. 

It is possible that these smoothie packs could be better by changing and adding ingredients, but the point of a smoothie pack is that you don’t have to add your own fruit. 

You should be able to just put it in the blender, add liquid and blend. Overall for the price of $12.59 I would suggest just buying bags of frozen fruit and making your own smoothies. 

You would get more value for your money and you could make your smoothies exactly how you like them.
